Minden Ice Racing

Speed on Ice
- Ice races first started in Minden in 1976
- Prior to 1976 the ice races were held on lakes all over the province
- The entire series shifted to Minden in the 1980’s
- At that time a dry track was used as it was safer and has run in Minden ever since
- Organizing clubs are all Canadian Automotive Sports Club (CASC)
- Each club organizes a weekend in Minden such as the club that organizes the Molson Indy in Toronto

The races are run strictly on a point system, no money is won but you can win a jacket or trophy. It is what you call poor man’s car racing. This is so the average person can come out and race.

The race categories are:
1st rubber to ice which is regular snow tires modified slightly for racing on ice
2nd old street studs that were run in Ontario years ago
3rd competition stud tires built in the USA

Within those categories are three different classes
Class 1 - front wheel drive
Class 2 –rear-wheel drive
Class 3 –four wheel drive

Admission is free so it is a great way to spend a weekend with the whole family. It’s not to late this winter as it will still be running for the next 4 weekends.

For more information on the ice races either as a spectator or a participant you can contact CASC at http://www.casc.on.ca/

January 24 - 25

The hottest sport on ice-ice racing starts at the end of January and going to the end of February(weather permitting) at the fair grounds in Minden, located on Bobcaygeon Rd, north of the bridge, on the east side. Lots of spectator area. Come watch this battle of the cars on a custom built ice track. These races are Not Demolition Derby, but fully sanctioned (CASC Ontario) races for specially prepared cars.
